About me
I'm studying computer science at the Saarland University since October 2008 and I'm working as a system administrator (research assistant) at the Computergraphics Lab since March 2009.
My main interests in computer science are the free *nix operating systems, especially GNU/Linux, open source in general and of course the community and the thoughts behind.
I really like open source, so I'm or I was a participant in various projects (ok, at the moment not much):
- freiesMagazin, a german magazine about Linux (mainly Ubuntu) and open source in general. "Maintainer" is Dominik Wagenführ. I worked as a typesetter and "layouter", but I also write articles
- unibot, an irc bot written in C++
- unicrawler, a project for the lecture "Informationssysteme" at my university
- github, my git repos on github
About thedarkwebsite.de (08.01.2006 - 26.08.2010)
The history of this site is long.
First, it should be a private homepage about me and things I'm interested in, but because this is very boring and because I was really bored, I wrote a lot of software, like a board, a quizpage, a pmsystem, in short, a portal.
And additionally, I wrote another website, which should help Windows newbies to do things easier with my own software.
But short time later, I deciced to move the content of the second website to my main website in an own section called "Computerkram" (only german).
And there it was - until now.
Now, this website is only about the GNU/Linux system. The Windows newbies can get help from everywhere else. This website is now especially for GNU/Linux geeks, because there isn't much help for geeksoftware ;)
But there is also my private website, which will be soon available.
I took this chance, to write the whole websites from scratch, because the backend was terrible. I hated it. I tried to import the Plan9 and the Unix philosophy. And I'm happy about it ;) So it is much easier to use for me.
And this time, I will not use any MySQL. Because it sucks. Why should I use mysql, when I also can use simple text files?
Of course, the whole website should be valid, through the standards of the W3C.
About thedarksite.org (27.08.2010 - today)
This history is rather short.
I decided a long time ago to set up my own system at my own vServer. So I bought me one yesterday (today is 2010/08/28) and registered the domain "thedarksite.org".
I'm now editing my website. And of course I try to follow the standards of the W3C as written above. The version is now 6.0.0:
Today (2011/02/19) I uploaded a new version (7.0.0) :)
A history of the website and my Computer way is here available (german only).
Version 8.0 is out! (2011/08/17)
The administration of two redundant sites was overkill, so I merged the two into one :)
There is now a changelog available (2011/09/08)
Now a few questions about this website ;)
Q: Why was your first domain called "thedarkwebsite.de"?
A: As I wrote above, the first idea was a private website. And a few years ago, I liked the dark things in life (and I still like it ;)), so I decided to call the second-level domain thedarkwebsite. And the top level domain is de, because I didn't had the money for a com or org domain. So it was just a german one.
Q: Why is your current domain called "thedarksite.org"?
A: 1. It should be a pun and 2. the same arguments as mentioned above.
Q: What was the sense of your favicon?
A: My favicon contains only binary numbers. The first line is the beginning latter of my prename in binary code, the last line the beginning latter of my lastname again in binary code. In the middle, you can see the Hacker Emblem in binary ASCII art surrounded by 0s and 1s. If you can't see my favicon, try a better browser ;)
Q: What's the sense of your favicon now?
Now it's quite boring. It contains only the letters T, D and S for TheDarkSite.
Q: Who wrotes/writes the stuff on this website?
A: That was/is me. Every line of code/text.
My RSS-Feed was coded by me,
too. It was/is created with the help of Wikipedia, Ubuntublog.ch
and the feed
validator and of course with a simple cronjob.
Q: What are the tools, you are using?
A: The systems are Arch
Linux, 64-bit on my laptop, on my PC and on
the server. My editor is on all systems Vim. Otherwise, I used
php.net and selfhtml.org for the code.
Q: Why do you write/wrote the main stuff in english?
A: English is the computer language. And so everybody can understand, what I am trying to explain. If the language would be german, only a few could understand the content.
Q: Why does the style of this site changes so often?
A: Unfortunately I am a bit perfectionistic..
